L2Discipline: An Introduction

Prepare yourselves, readers! I’ve decided to write a complete guide to Discipline Priesting. Yes, you read that right. A complete guide. Covering everything from talent choices to pre-Naxx gear, roles a Disc Priest can play to how you can assign them in raids. How to gem. How to enchant. How to everything!

Why? Well, you see there’s a million and one guides to holy priests out there. Wynthea’s writing a series for World of Matticus, Ensidia’s priest has one, to name a few. But if you google “Disciple Priest Guide” you get next to nothing. It’s rather sad and off-putting. :( And considering the amount of fail Discipline Priests I’ve seen (from inspecting random priests in Dalaran to PUGing), I feel the need to correct this issue and fill the gap.

Stay tuned—First thing I’m attacking is TALENTS.

  1. isn’t it too little too late.. i mean.. pre-naxx gear? roles in pve? how to assign in raids?

1, run heroics til you get bored, but valorous items
2, your a MT healer, who can do backup (read: emergency) raid healing
    3, its not hard..

  2. The idea is to start from the bottom and cover everything along the way as I go up.

Also it’s comments like yours that prove to me this sort of guide is needed. :P

  3. I am leveling up an alt shadow priest (76!), but I’m going to grab disc as my off-spec, so this is perfect timing for me and will be really appreciated.

  4. Well, there’s no disc guide because it’s a sub-optimal spec for a sub-optimal class.

    ;-)

Seriously, though, I’m looking forward to seeing it.

  5. I am so excited for this guide. I currently have a disc priest at level 66 and have been having a hard time finding any really comprehensive guides similar to what I found for my 80 rogue. Thanks!

  6. I have a question that seems ill placed in any of the articles on discipline healing so far. So I thought I’d stick it here and maybe you can touch on it on a future article.

Something I have noticed on our server with raid pugs is messages in trade that go something like:

LFM (some raid) Need X DPS and Y Healers. w/ achiev and stats. 5k+DPS and 3k+HPS or I will kick you.

How are other discipline priests coping in the world of pugs and their meter centric view of the world? I’m in a guild which I love, but sometimes the only way to visit a place during the week (VoA, ToC, etc…) is to pug it. I really don’t want to just go holy to not get kicked because I prefer disc.

  7. Underpromise; overdeliver.
