This blog is outdated. Sorry have 45k mana raid buffed 870 haste 51.2 crit . Casting anything but holy light atm is pretty fail. Yes I still cast Fol's when but the meat of my Heals say 70% are HOL's. It's a sad fact. That's in a min max perspective.

Great post!

I subscribe to the benefits of gemming everything int. The benefits are well documented. I also have been playing long enough that balance through ability use is there. I am not a spambot any more than the class design requires.

Spellpower has its benefits as noted above with Sacred Shield and the Hot's associated with our toys now. I am just not one who will seek more than the end game tier gear gives me because it is not needed imho.

I just found out about this blog, and have to tell you how impressed I am. I am an old time Disc Priest, but my paladin got to 80 in the summer, and splits her time between Prot and Holy. This post gave me a couple of interesting ideas on how to improve my paladin healing style, so thanks for that.

One of things not covered in this was the changes to Beacon of Light and also to Sacred Shield that give a HUGE advantage to FoL over HL. Where HL was probably used about 40-50% of the time by well geared pally's, before..now it is down to the 20-30%, simply because if you are raiding and have a 2nd pally, you can beacon the same tank and have the higher SP pally put their shield on the MT giving better absorption as well as larger HoT's. The overhealing aspect of having both pally healers healing the same beacon target is like having double the healing on the MT while going around in the raid and maintaining other healers and MT's. It really is very overpowered at this point, but really only if you have a 2nd pally healer.

Also, don't forget Aura Mastery where one can essentially add another 1-2% of mitigation for a brief period of time or double the effect of Shadow/Fire/Frost resist. We use this all the time for Hodir in 25-man We have everyone hold on to their healthstones and use them for the 3rd time of Frozen Blows. That means we can cover 4 out of 5 frozen blows and ease healing. Also means that we can go for hard mode ALOT easier because we don't need to take as many healers.

I do like the article, though. It's nice to see someone think outside of the "spambot" box for pally's.

Love this post!

Mostly I love the dualities you're pointing out. I'm in about 2311 SP worth of gear, and fully gemmed for Intellect, but I'm one of the people that is compelled to snipe raid heals constantly. Flash of Light is perfect for patching up a raid. I'd say with enough haste, it can get more done than a Wild Growth. I think gearing for intellect and haste would be the best balance of HPS and longevity, but I'm constantly at odds with people that gear fully for SP (and now mp5.) :[

First of all great post, i think is been a while since i actually read anyone write about balance for Holy Paladins, sadly all i hear lately is how OP they are and how they never run OOM. And is just so rare for me to find someone who isn't just sitting there spamming Holy Light.

I've given this spec a try a couple times before and i know it does have a lot of potential when used properly (which i would need a lot more practice to accomplish), basically, people don't give Flash Light enough credit, i think is an amazing spell considering the short casting time and the efficiency it can achieve in terms of healing w/ low mana cost, and we all know "getting that heal off in time" could make the difference between a wipe or a win.

Oddly enough my Paladin looks best with her tanking shield on if you know what i mean hehe, but i would def like to see some more good Holy Paladins around.
